My 15 Favorite Visual Artist of All-Time

Listed below are 15 of my favorite artist. They all have a diverse range of styles and have influenced me in one way or another. Read more about each artist by following the link attached to the pics.

15. Egon Schiele: He focused on portraits of others as well as himself. In his later years, while he still worked often with nudes, they were done in a more realist fashion. (wikipedia.org)

14. Ernie Barnes: His artwork is characterized by elongated figures, usually in motion. Owing to his athletic background, many of his paintings have a sports theme(wikipedia.org)

13. Salvador Dali: was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. His painterly skills are often attributed to the influence of Renaissance masters. (wikipedia.org)

12. Frida Kahlo: A Mexican painted.  She painted using vibrant colors in a style that was influenced by indigenous cultures of Mexico and European influences including Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism. Many of her works are self-portraits that symbolically articulate her own pain. (wikipedia.org)

11. Pablo Picasso: (25 October 1881 – 8 April 1973) was a Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor. He is one of the most recognized figures in 20th-century art. He is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work. (wikipedia.org)

10. Gustav Klimt: An Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. His major works include paintings, murals, sketches, and other art objects. Klimt's primary subject was the female body,  and his works are marked by a frank eroticism—nowhere is this more apparent than in his numerous drawings in pencil. (wikipedia.org)

09. William Blake: An English poet, painter, and printmaker. Largely unrecognised during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of both the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age. His prophetic poetry has been said to form "what is in proportion to its merits the least read body of poetry in the English language".  His visual artistry has led one modern critic to proclaim him "far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever produced". (wikipedia.org)

08. Marcel Duchamp:   A French/American artist whose work is most often associated with the Dadaist and Surrealist movements. Duchamp's output influenced the development of post-World War I Western art.(wikipedia.org)

07. Jean-Michel Basquiat: An American artist and the first painter of African descent to become an international art star.  He gained popularity first as a graffiti artist in New York City, and then as a successful 1980s-era Neo-expressionist artist. (wikipedia.org)

06. Georgia O'Keeffe: An American artist. Born near Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, O'Keeffe was a major figure in American art from the 1920s. She received widespread recognition for her technical contributions, as well as for challenging the boundaries of modern American artistic style. She is chiefly known for paintings of flowers, rocks, shells, animal bones, and landscapes in which she synthesized abstraction and representation. Her paintings present crisply contoured forms that are replete with subtle tonal transitions of varying colors. She often transformed her subject matter into powerful abstract images. (wikipedia.org)

05. Aaron Douglas: an African American painter and a major figure in the Harlem Renaissance. The style Aaron Douglas developed in the 1920s synthesized aspects of modern European, ancient Egyptian, and West African art. His best-known paintings are semi-abstract, and feature flat forms, hard edges, and repetitive geometric shapes. (wikipedia.org)

04. Leonardo DaVinci: An Italian polymath, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer. Leonardo has often been described as the archetype of the Renaissance man, a man whose unquenchable curiosity was equaled only by his powers of invention.(wikipedia.org)

03. Alberto Giacometti: a Swiss sculptor, painter, draftsman, and printmaker. Alberto Giacometti was born in October 1901 in Italian-speaking Switzerland and came from an artistic background - his father, Giovanni, was a well known Post-Impressionist painter.(wikipedia.org)

02. Jackson Pollock: an influential American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. During his lifetime, Pollock enjoyed considerable fame and notoriety.(wikipedia.org)

01. Vincent Van Gogh: A Dutch Post-Impressionist painter whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th century art for its vivid colors and emotional impact. He suffered from anxiety and increasingly frequent bouts of mental illness throughout his life, and died largely unknown, at the age of 37, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.(wikipedia.org)

Day One

January 1st, 2010. Day one of a new year. After recovering from a great night of celebrating in Times Sq. with my wife and friends I went into the studio to plot my course for my art career in the new year. I have many exciting things planned for 2010. First would be this website. Its my goal to keep an updated and complete resource of my work. Second will be the upcoming art show, "Re:Born" at Avram Eisen Gallery in Chicago starting January 1st (more info to come soon). and my third immediate goal is to continue to grow as an artist, as I look back on my work over the last 10 years I can see the progession. I will just continue to read and research, asking important questions that lead to inspiration and I hope unique and profound work.

Happy New Year!
